Seminary and Institute

So, I know a lot of people don't follow my blog, but if there is anyone reading, I would appreciate some feedback. There is a question that has been brought into my life and I don't have a good answer for it. I just accept it at face value.

Why is there a grade given to high school kids in LDS Seminary?

Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated.

That's a good question--I have to admit I was one of those who hated the idea of a grade. I guess just like all education, for those who want feedback on what they're learning, a grade helps them determine how much they've retained (or how much they've attended). However, just like all education...the real value is not in the grade achieved, but in the education that is retained in the long run. But they often come hand in hand.
